Musical GENIUS Devante Swing (of Jodeci) showcases his Piano skills…Growing up in the 90’s I remember there was tons of black r&b music groups, but out of those tons of r&b groups, ONLY 2 groups mattered. And, those 2 groups were “Boys to Men” and “Jodeci.” Boys to Men were clean cut, cookie cutter & traditional. Jodeci was the opposite! Jodeci were street, edgy and raw! Although, K-ci was the lead singer of Jodeci, the REAL STAR was Devante Swing (producer, composer, musician, singer/song writer) Devante was beyond Blessed it’s just a shame that drugs derailed a once promising career to the top! This video is a reminder of what once was!
Fun Fact: DeVante had run away from home in hopes of working with Prince at the age of 16, but didn’t get too far in music before he returned home. He told Vibe magazine: ” I was up at Paisley Park every day begging for a job, asking people to listen to my tape. The receptionist kept saying she couldn’t help me. I wasn’t gonna leave until they put me on.”
Devante also discovered & molded the following musicians: Ginuwine, Missy Elliot, Timberland, Magoo and the late great Static.
I haven’t been away. I’m just not on certain radars. By choice. ’Cause I’m not jumping in the Gladiator ring to be like, “I smite thee!” [Laughs] Like, you know… I’m relaxed. I’m like whatever is coming to me will come. I just have to just stay…
